The eruption of Mount Tambora



Eruption most powerful in the world. Mount Tambora which is located on Sumbawa Island erupted in April 1815 when it erupted in the scale of seven on the Volcanic explosivity index. The explosion was heard on Sumatra island (more than 2,000 miles). Volcanic ash fall in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java and Maluku. The explosion caused the death of up to not less than 71,000 people with whom 11,000-12,000 killed directly as a result of the eruption. In fact, some researchers estimate up to 92,000 people were killed. Moreover, this eruption caused global climate change. The next year (1816) is often referred to as the year without a summer as the weather changes drastically from North America and Europe because of the dust produced from this Tambora eruption.
