Temple Cangkuang GARUT

A. Overview
 
Cangkuang is similar names pandanus tree (Pandanus furcatus) who used the community as a material for making hoods, mats, and pembukus palm sugar. Along with the turnaround time, Cangkuang name immortalized as the name of a village and also the name of a lake / situ, ie Cangkuang and Cangkuang Lake Village. Then, a temple located in the region also named Temple Cangkuang.
Cangkuang temple discovered by Prof. Harsoyo and Drs. Uka Tjandrasasmita, Leles History Research Team, on December 19, 1966. This study was sponsored by Mr. Idji Hatadji, Director of CV. Eau. This temple was discovered thanks to the Dutch scientist named Vordeman report in Proceedings Bataviaasch Genootschap published in 1893, which mentions the existence of an ancient tomb and the remains of the statue of Lord Shiva in the area Leles.
In subsequent studies, in the region were also found relics of prehistoric times, such as stone tools from oxidant (stone Kendan), fragments of pottery from the Neolithic era, and large stones cultural heritage Megalithic era.
Judging from the shape of the building, the archaeologists found Cangkuang temple stood since the 8th century. However, when viewed from the simplicity of decoration, engineering manufacture, and reports the Chinese legend, not impossible Cangkuang temple building has existed since the 7th century, along with the construction of other temples in Java.

 B. Features

Approximately one meter on the south side of the temple, there is the tomb of Muhammad Arif Grandparent Dalem. The temple is located in the village Cangkuang Cangkuang Leles District, Garut, West Java Province, Indonesia.

D. access
 
Location Cangkuang temple is about 46 kilometers from Bandung and 20 kilometers from the center of the city of Garut.
Visitors who use public transport can take the bus to Garut. From Garut, continued his journey by riding public transportation to Leles. From the edge of Highway Leles, the location of the temple is about 3 kilometers. From here, visitors can ride buggy, motorcycle, or walk about 35 minutes. After passing Kampung Pulo, visitors will cross Cangkuang Lake by raft to the location of the temple.
